BarGate is a medieval gatehouse in the city centre. It was constructed in the Norman era as part of the Southampton town walls and acted as the main gateway to the city. The site is now a monument of Southampton’s heritage and there are ruins to explore to uncover the history the Southern port city.

SeaCity museum holds much of the city’s history as a port town. One of their key permanent exhibitions is the story of the Titanic as Berth 44 was the quay that the White Star Liner ship originally set sale from. The museum features a 1.25 scales interactive model of the ship, giving you an insight of what life aboard the titanic would have been like before its untimely demise.

Saint Mary’s Stadium is the home of premier league club Southampton FC. It’s capacity is 32,384 making it the largest football stadium outside London in South England. The stadium offers tours and also has event spaces for weddings, Christmas parties and any other celebration.

The Mayflower Theatre was established in 1928 and was originally called the Empire theatre. It was bought by Southampton City Council in 1986 after a public enquiry to prevent It from being turned into a bingo hall and now hosts amazing stage productions such as The Lion King, Grease and various Panto shows.

This area is further inland to the North of the city centre. Netley offers a great atmosphere for those that enjoy a traditional village by the sea style of life. There are also great rail links to Southampton Central station as well as Portsmouth Harbour, great for commuters travelling in and out of the city.

Southampton has great road links to London, which can be accessed via the M3. The journey between Southampton and the capital city takes up to 2 hours by car. There is also easy access to Portsmouth via the M27. The A31 provides access to the South West with Bournemouth being the closest town around 45 minutes away.

There are two main train stations in the city. Southampton Central and Southampton Airport Parkway. The Central station is located on the mainline to London Waterloo and train services that are direct to the capital run every 30 minutes. The journey takes around 2 hours. There are a number of providers that connect Southampton with the rest of the UK, South Western Railway, Southern Trains, First Great Western and Cross country trains provide services to Bournemouth and Poole, Portsmouth, Brighton, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and of course London Waterloo.

For domestic and international flights, Southampton airport offers a variety of destinations. They cover the main cities in Scotland and Ireland as well as the North of England.
